Moscliff was your ordinary little town, created in 1948 as a suburb, and then slowly growing into its own community from there. Since then, it's grown to a population of thirty thousand, not large, but a respectable number for such a town. Surrounded by a lake and a forest, the town was rather isolated. This isolation, more than anything else, is what changed the course of life in Moscliff. The quiet, empty area west of the town, past the forest, was a large empty field, perfect when Umberdire was looking for a new location for one of their most controversial projects yet. The forest held a number of wolves for their testing purposes, and the city was filled to the brim with dogs, both pets and strays.
Thus, the field was a field no longer. Instead, it was transformed into a state of the art testing facility, although for the most part, the Moscliff residents didn't notice anything about it. As the driveway for the fenced lab led away from Moscliff, the residents only rarely came into contact with the scientists, and when they did, the latter were remarkably closemouthed about what they were actually working on.
The reason for the secrecy? What these scientists were doing here wasn't even remotely legal. Umberdire was a shell of a company, a facade to hide genetic testing behind. The scientists had the best of the intentions, but as they played God with a number of dogs' lives, trying to perfect the gene sequences that would allow them to move on to giving humans actual superpowers, they lost track of the work they were doing, that they were ruining their lab 'rats' lives by their high-handedness. More than one dog was left to starve in the lab kennels, and the failed experiments were only bred to create more subjects.
All of that changed one day, June sixth, two thousand and twelve. That morning, the dogs woke up to find all of the humans had disappeared, and their world was enclosed by a twenty-mile bubble, a barrier that they couldn't cross. Their lives in disarray, the dogs were forced to figure out their own way in the world now, a hit which affected the lab and house dogs the most.
A year has passed since Zero, as the event was called later. Now the canines have found their way around, settling themselves into four packs, with the resulting territories, it has come down to preserving the peace, or risking a war that will kill off most of the dogs left in the Bubble.
